Contemporary art does have that reputation for being hard! Artists aren't trying to make it hard for viewers though, they are just expressing their feelings and ideas in whatever way works for them. I always say listen to the thoughts in your head when you're looking at art, that's one layer of understanding that you have. Other layers of understanding come with more effort.
